Inspired by the flowering nopal cactus landscapes of Chiapas, Mexico, this one-of-a-kind handmade basket brings together two beautiful regional materials. The cactus and the humminbird are crafted from richly embroidered felt ( on both sides), while the basket is woven from pine needles, a material deeply connected to the ceremonial traditions of the Tzotzil Maya communities of Chiapas. Fresh pine needles are traditionally used to adorn sacred spaces and church floors during religious celebrations.
The colorful flowering nopal rises from the woven basket like a small landscape, creating a playful and distinctive decorative piece. Each basket is made entirely by hand, so embroidery patterns, colors, and dimensions may vary slightly, making every piece unique.
