These handwoven rugs are part of our ongoing project to build lasting, sustainable relationships with artisan families in the Western Guatemalan highlands. Inspired by traditional rug patterns from Momostenango, each rug celebrates the distinctive textile heritage of the region while supporting the continued practice of traditional weaving.
The rugs are responsibly crafted using locally sourced wool that is carded, spun, and naturally dyed before being woven. The rug-making process involves carefully knotting wool strands onto a handwoven cotton foundation, all created on a traditional pedal loom. This meticulous process gives each rug its rich texture, depth, and distinctive character.
Handwoven in the Western Guatemalan highlands, every rug is made with care and reflects the skill and knowledge of the artisan who created it. Subtle variations are part of its handmade nature.
